The Artist “Strikes” Again!

Let’s revisit a wee observation from Anatomy Lesson #18, “The Wedding – Part Deux,” wherein I note a discrepancy between Jamie’s injuries as revealed in the flogging scene (Starz episode 6, The Garrison Commander) and his healed scars (Starz episode 7, The Wedding).

ep 7 whip lashes KLS edited

Although his flogging injuries stop above the kilt top (~L4-L5 IV disc), the scars descend over most of his sacrum (~S1-S4 levels). Several friends via different arms of social media propose that the first flogging (which we did not see) accounts for the sacral scars. As a scientist, I would be amiss to not consider all possibilities and probabilities. But (not butt), the likelihood of flaying just sacral skin while sparing buttock skin approaches zero even if performed by a gifted wielder of the whip such as our residence sadist, BJR!

So, I stand by my original observation: artistic license accounts for the prosthesis extending below the actual flogging injuries. These special effects are especially stunning because they grip our minds and force us to confront uncomfortable truths. Does anyone care? Well, I do of course! Big grin. Anatomy Lesson #19 coming up next Tuesday. See you then!

My Tartan Affair

I’m finally home after a long day of travel! This is my Tartan Affair with the Outlander cast, Starz, the Clanmily (so many of us lovely fans!) and NYC! Of course, there are now thousands of high quality pictures floating around the internet and you can always find them at places like Farfaraway but these are my humble pics.

After an early but energizing morning I took a wee norrag (40 winks) and headed to the theatre. What a crush! Some people had been standing outside for 7 hours or more!

But we had great fun while waiting in line! Kilted cuties handed out swag…

and kept us entertained and distracted from the cold…

When we entered the theatre there was a fantastic costume and set display. Terry and her team have done a truly spectacular job on the costumes. In addition to filming in Scotland, the costuming makes the story so very real.

All of a sudden I found myself transformed…

Luckily, these bonny gents brought me back to reality and it was time for the show!

As the pipers, @darkislepiper and @vbyrnes23, took the stage the energy in the room was electric! I was thrilled to be seated only 14 rows from the stage in an aisle seat. A wonderful view!

ep-9

I can only say that Episode 9 is fantastic and well titled, The Reckoning! I’m so excited to see it again! So much anatomy to uncover! Speaking of…have ye been studying yer body parts? There’s still time to take the mid-term exam and brush up!

Then, it was time for our favorite stars to take the stage…

panel

The panel was lively…Gary is a whisky expert, Graham is entertaining (and neither a Macintosh nor a hobbit), Lotte, Cait, Tobias, Ron and Sam were all lovely. It’s clear that they adore their fans as much as their Clanmily adores them!

answers

I was hoping to ask a couple questions, but sadly, the panel only lasted 15 minutes! This is what I want to know:

RonHow is it decided who writes which episode? Do you draw straws like Rupert and Angus?

SamYou said you were injured while filming an upcoming episode. Which type of injury did you sustain?

Alas, I’ll have to wait for another time (I did get to shake Ron’s hand and was about 6″ within Sam’s orbit)…I’m so delighted that I was able to attend the Tartan Affair and meet all of the wonderful fans that make this a Clanmily! We are fierce!
